Who Does the Super-Computer Predicts to Win the EPL Title?

The Sports Analytics Machine, popularly known as SAM was developed by the University of Salford to predict sporting events outcomes. SAM has predicted the possible outcome of the 2016/2017 premier league season based on a variety of factors. Professor Ian McHale and Tarak Kharrat are the developers of SAM. According to professor McHale, Chelsea (currently at the top of the table) has 63 points and is 10 points clear at the top of the table followed by Tottenhum Hotspurs. Manchester City is a close third with 52 points with a game in hand. Arsenal and Liverpool follow closely with 50 and 49 points respectively.

There are however a few factors that are held constant for SAM to make the predictions. For instance, SAM assumes that there will be no major injuries to the team’s top players hence the starting eleven will remain relatively constant. It also assumes that teams will not buy influential players for the rest of the season. For instance, if Burnley were to sign Leo Messi, that would make a huge difference.

Who is going to Win the Premier League According to Express Sport?

Manchester City-Bruce Archer

According to deputy sports editor Bruce Archer, Manchester city is a great choice to win the EPL title 2017. According to him, Manchester city’s attack is in great form and there is telepathy between David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne who are creating several chances as well as taking them.

The only shortcoming of Manchester City is their defence. Their defence did show great lapses in their UEFA encounter with Monaco. The goalkeeper doesn’t seem confident and has several questions to answer.

Manchester city is 11 points behind the league leaders Chelsea but they have a game in hand. Should they win the game against Sunderland, they will be 8 points behind Chelsea. If they are to win the title, Manchester City has to be at their best and ensure that they take 3 points away from Chelsea when they visit them on April. The current odds for Manchester City to win the Title stand at 10.

Arsenal-Stuart Ballard

Arsenal always seems to be stuck at the fourth place in the table. While their chances of winning the title are slim, you cannot rule out the possibility. Since 2004, Arsenal has not looked to be convincing title contenders. Arsene Wenger, the teams coach is rumored to retire at the end of the season. Arsenal could give the other title contenders a run for their money due to their strong finishing form. Their current odds to win the title stand at 50.

Chelsea

Having played 26 games of the season, Chelsea is a strong favorite to win the English Premier League for the 2016/2017 season. They have won a total of 20 games, lost only 3 games and drew 3 games. Antonio’s Conte side continued with their tile campaign this weekend when they hosted Swansea City and easily edged them out with a comfortable 3-1 win. Chelsea is in total control and the title is theirs to lose.

On March 6th, they will travel to West Ham where they are strong favorites to carry home all the three points. Their only worry fixture is April 5th when they host Manchester City. Their current odds for winning the title stand at 1/7.

Tottenhum Hotspurs-Second Place

After a thrilling 4-0 demolition of Stoke City this weekend, Mauricio Pochettino’s side made it clear that the race for the title is still on. Harry Kane is in firing form after scoring three times. The Spurs game is currently the whole package as their attacking is in form while their defence is impenetrable.

While their chances of winning the title are becoming slimmer as they ran out of games; the possibility of winning the title cannot be ruled out. The current odds for Tottenhum to win the Title stand at 20.

Finally, Leicester City Won the Premier League after 30 Years Dry Spell

For the season 2015-2016, the unbelievable happened! Leicester city (also referred to as the Foxes) surprised many of the football fans around the globe by being crowned the champions. The Foxes really did a wonderful job, from almost being relegated the previous season to the top of the table of the most watched football league worldwide. Big football clubs like Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspurs, Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City could not be able to stop The Foxes to their big, almost unrealistic dream of lifting the English Premier League Cup. Tottenham hotspurs were the closest and ones that gave a lot of pressure to the league leaders. Almost to the end of the league, their dream was shuttered when Chelsea (defending Champions) came from two down to claim a draw. This meant that Leicester City had already won the English Premier League title.

English Premier League

It is a professional league that is played in England and it is widely known as EPL (English Premier League). The league is comprised of 20 football clubs that compete during each season which runs from August to May. Every season, some clubs (3 in number) are either promoted to the league or relegated. Two clubs get promoted from Championship while the third is gotten from series of play offs between the teams in third to sixth placed positions in the Championship. Clubs from Wales can also compete in the Premier League if they qualify when they play in the English Football League.

All of the 20 member clubs that play in the English Premier League acts as shareholders of the corporation. Most of the matches are played on weekends (Saturday or Sunday). Each contesting club has two fixtures against each of the remaining clubs. This means that for a season it plays twice against each of the remaining nineteen clubs .One of the fixture is played at home whereas the other is played at the opponent’s stadium. Thus at the end of the season, each club has played 38 matches.

Ranking is done based on the points, goal difference as well as goals scored. Three points are awarded for a win, one point for a draw and no point for a loss. In the case of two clubs tying on every aspect of ranking and it is necessary to have one i.e for a qualification, and then they’ll go for a play-off that will determine the rank. The play-off will be at a neutral venue for fairness.

Four top clubs in the English Premier League qualify to play in the UEFA Champion’s league. Three top clubs qualify directly while the fourth one is set for a play-off for which it is a must that it wins in a two-legged knockout for it to qualify in to the group stages.

The English Premier League is the mostly watched football league across the globe. It is seen by most as the most toughest competition in the world in which every single participating club poses same threat as the other i.e it is not easy to scoop points from your opponent. In the recent years, clubs in premier league are spending huge sums of money to buy world class players.
