Everton have huge summer plans: What Silva's quotes on in-form ace really mean

Everton boss Marco Silva has been commenting on the future of Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes following his latest impressive performance for the Toffees.

What did he say?

Gomes joined Everton on loan from Barcelona during the summer transfer window, and made his debut for the Toffees last month after recovering from injury.

Since stepping into the first team, Everton have won three of their five Premier League matches and lost just once, with their improvement clear to see.

As it stands, the 25-year-old will return to his parent club this summer, but Silva has been discussing the Portuguese’s future.

It remains to be seen whether Everton would be able to entice the midfielder to Goodison Park on a permanent deal, but it does not take a genius to realise that Silva is absolutely desperate for that to happen.

The Liverpool Echo quotes Silva as saying:

“I think in the right moment we have to do something to achieve one player like Andre.

“We have time to do that. We are happy with him, he is enjoying the moment here and I don’t think it is a good moment to talk every week because it’s better they (Barcelona) forget about him a little bit about Andre!

“You go there in the right moment. Andre is enjoying his time but we don’t want to put this pressure of a decision on him. It is early.”

What Silva’s words really mean

Silva basically means that he is desperate to sign Gomes, and has urged the midfielder to forget all about Barcelona to make the move to Goodison Park.

Silva is sending a message to the Everton board, who will have to fork out to stand a chance of signing Gomes, and is also just letting Barcelona know that the Toffees would be more than happy to take him at the end of the season.

Gomes is also receiving a little nudge, reminding the midfielder how much he is enjoying himself in England.

The Portugal international made 31 appearances in all competitions for Barcelona last term, but largely struggled to make his mark, and it soon became clear that he would not be part of Ernesto Valverde’s plans for the 2018-19 campaign.

Everton were fortunate to sign a player who was outstanding during his two seasons at Valencia between 2014 and 2016, and it would be some capture if they managed to acquire his services on a permanent deal.

Opinion: Everton may have to break the bank to land Silva's key man

Everton manager Marco Silva has admitted that he is keen to make Andre Gomes’s loan from Barcelona permanent at the end of the season, reports the Daily Mail.

What’s the word?

The Portugal international was one of a handful of new players who moved to Goodison Park in the summer.

However, he had to wait for his chance to shine due to injury, but now that he is fit and raring to go, the midfielder has become a fan favourite.

In total, the 25-year-old has made five Premier League appearances and at the weekend he played an instrumental role in the Toffees’ 1-0 win over Cardiff City.

As reported by the Daily Mail, Silva admitted to reporters that he wants to sign Gomes permanently and hopes that Barcelona ‘forget’ about him.

Is a deal feasible?

If Gomes finishes the season as a regular in the first team and is injury-free, then it would be no surprise if he was open to moving to Goodison full time.

It is unlikely that the midfielder will break into Barca’s squad, but if he continues to impress at Everton, the Catalan giants may take a second look.

If the club opt to sell, then the Toffees will have to stump up a wad of cash given that Barcelona bought him from Valencia for £29m plus add-ons two years ago.

Majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri has pumped millions into the Merseyside outfit and has the money to play around with, but depending on the asking price, signing Gomes permanently could affect the rest of the club’s transfer spending.

'Textbook from Ashley', 'Be serious' – Lots of Newcastle fans doubt deal for 6ft 1in ace

According to Cadena Ser, Newcastle United are interested in signing Real Sociedad defender Diego Llorente, although Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are also reportedly admirers of the Spaniard.

Llorente came through the youth system at Real Madrid, but only made three first-team appearances for the European champions before leaving for Sociedad in 2017.

The 25-year-old has scored seven times in 39 appearances for Sociedad, and has recently returned to the fold for the Basque club following a spell out of action with an ankle problem.

Llorente, who is also a two-time senior international with Spain, is attracting interest from Newcastle, Liverpool and Tottenham, according to Cadena Ser.

The Newcastle fans have been on social media discussing the transfer report, and it would be fair to say that the majority do not fancy their club’s chances of pulling off a deal for the 6ft 1in ace.

Opinion: Everton should move for Richarlison's international teammate in January

Barcelona midfielder Rafinha is once again being linked with a move away from Camp Nou, and Everton should make a January move for the Brazilian.

What’s the story?

Rafinha has been with Barcelona since 2006, and after progressing through the youth system, has gone on to make 86 appearances for the Spanish giants in all competitions.

A long-term knee injury saw Rafinha miss the first half of last season, but he returned to action in January, and moved on loan to Inter Milan for the rest of the campaign.

Inter turned down the chance to sign the South American on a permanent deal during the summer, and Rafinha has made seven appearances for Barcelona this term.

The 25-year-old continues to be linked with a move away from Camp Nou though, and it is thought that a January exit could take place.

Roma are the latest team to be linked with Rafinha, but Everton should be in the race to sign the versatile midfielder at the start of 2019.

Why should Everton move for Rafinha?

Rafinha might be surplus to requirements at Barcelona, but this is a player who has scored 12 times in 86 appearances for one of the best club teams in world football.

Rafinha will not turn 26 until next February, meanwhile, and there is absolutely no question that he has the qualities to be a success in the Premier League.

The 5ft 8in ace is capable of playing in a number of different positions in the final third of the field, and Richarlison would certainly welcome his arrival at Goodison Park.

Indeed, the pair recently spent the international break together, and Richarlison would only improve alongside players of Rafinha’s ilk and indeed experience.

There will be a number of clubs closely monitoring developments, but Everton really should be in the mix for the talented playmaker.

'Utter genius,' 'Unreal' … These Liverpool fans stunned by transfer business

Usually, the men behind the scenes at football clubs come under intense scrutiny, and some have a difficult relationship with the fans.

At Liverpool, though, there is one man who is adored by the Merseyside outfit’s following, and that is sporting director Michael Edwards.

He took the role in 2016 and has since played a huge role in bringing top players to Anfield, including Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and goalkeeper Alisson.

Now, it has been reported by The Times journalist Paul Joyce that Edwards struck an agreement with Barcelona during the sale of Philippe Coutinho.

It is believed that if the Catalan giants want to sign another Liverpool before 2020, they will have to pay a premium of €100m on top of a fee.

Barcelona have poached a few of the Reds’ key players, and the likes of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Salah are regularly linked with moves to Spain.

Unsurprisingly, plenty of Liverpool fans are delighted with this reported clause.
