Opinion: Leeds will win the Championship if they pull off stunning swoop this month

Leeds United’s Championship promotion bid will receive an incredible boost if they manage to pull off a deal for Real Madrid goalkeeper Kiko Casilla.

What’s the word, then?

Leeds are on the verge of sealing a deal for experienced stopper Casilla, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The 32-year-old actually started his professional career with Real Madrid, but left in 2007 without making a first-team appearance.

The goalkeeper re-joined the Spanish giants from Espanyol in 2015, however, and has since appeared on 43 occasions in all competitions.

Casilla dropped to third choice at the Bernabeu when Thibaut Courtois arrived last summer though and has not been involved for the club this term.

Leeds are seemingly on the cusp of sealing Casilla’s signature, which will send a huge message to the rest of the Championship heading into a vital period.

Why is the deal so huge?

Leeds have been linked with a new goalkeeper for some time. Indeed, they lost on-loan Chelsea stopper Jamal Blackman to a broken leg in November and desperately need competition for Bailey Peacock-Farrell.

Peacock-Farrell has been first choice all season, but the 22-year-old’s form has not always been terrific and a new stopper is a priority for the Whites.

Casilla was outstanding in the latter stages of his time with Espanyol and is a player with Champions League experience.

Casilla, who also made his Spain debut in 2014, will bring pedigree and knowhow to Leeds as they chase a return to the Premier League.

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, the deal will go through this week and the arrival of the 6ft 3in ace will certainly make Leeds the favourites to hold onto first position in the Championship table.

'Unreal', 'What a day' – Loads of Leeds fans are in shock as club nears incredible capture

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds United are nearing the signing of Real Madrid goalkeeper Kiko Casilla.

The report claims that Casilla will travel to England next week to undergo a medical before signing a contract with the Championship leaders.

Casilla re-joined Real Madrid from Espanyol in 2015 and has made 43 appearances for the European champions over the last four campaigns.

The 32-year-old dropped down to third choice last summer, however, when Los Blancos signed Thibaut Courtois from Chelsea.

As a result, he has not been involved for the Spanish giants this season and is now nearing a move to Leeds, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The news is huge for Leeds, who opened up a five-point lead at the top of the Championship table by beating Derby County 2-0 on Friday night.

And it would be fair to say that the Leeds supporters are excited about the prospect of Casilla making the move to Elland Road.

Could Neymar be set for a shock return to Barcelona? Whether or not the Brazilian ace does decide to reverse the transfer that made him the world’s most expensive player in 2017, it’s unlikely events will play out in the same manner as imagined by the guys at 442oons.

Everton could reportedly kick off this summer's spending with swoop for gifted 25-year-old

According to Mundo Deportivo, Everton have been told that they can sign Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes on a permanent deal for £22.4m at the end of the season.

What’s the word, then?

Gomes joined Everton on loan from Barcelona towards the start of August, with the midfielder being deemed surplus to requirements at Camp Nou.

Gomes made 31 appearances in all competitions for the Spanish champions last term, but largely struggled to make his mark and was ultimately deemed surplus to requirements for the 2018-19 campaign.

Everton won the race to sign the Portugal international, who has now played 14 times for the Toffees after appearing in their FA Cup clash with Lincoln City on Saturday.

Everton are desperate to secure the 25-year-old on a permanent contract and according to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have revealed that the price is £22.4m.

The figure is certainly less than Everton would have expected to be quoted, but it seems that Barcelona are keen to sell at the end of the season.

Will Gomes join Everton on a permanent deal?

If Everton do have a bid accepted by Barcelona then it will be over to Gomes.

Gomes was outstanding during his two seasons at Valencia, scoring nine times in 78 appearances for Los Che between 2014 and 2016.

Barcelona signed him in the summer of 2016 and he made 47 appearances during his first campaign at Camp Nou.

Gomes went public in admitting his struggles at Barcelona last term, however, and it was not a surprise when the Portuguese left ahead of the new season.

Everton clearly have big plans for the future, but the likes of Tottenham Hotspur have also been credited with an interest.

Gomes might well believe that he deserves to be at a club playing Champions League football, but he clearly feels settled at Goodison Park and could kick off the club’s spending in this summer’s transfer window.

Opinion: Everton must move for £31.5m-rated striker who would take the Premier League by storm

Everton desperately need to bringing a new centre-forward to the club at the end of the season and the Toffees should target a move for Celta Vigo’s Maxi Gomez.

What’s the word, then?

Cenk Tosun actually performed quite well in the second half of last season following his arrival at Goodison Park, but there is no question that the Turkey international has failed to impress during the 2018-19 campaign.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has shown bits and pieces, but there remains uncertainty surrounding the 21-year-old.

Calvert-Lewin started through the middle against Lincoln City in the FA Cup on Saturday afternoon, but was replaced by Tosun at the break.

Ademola Lookman and Bernard scored the goals against Lincoln, but there is an incredible onus on Richarlison to find the back of the net for the Toffees.

It is absolutely vital that Everton boss Marco Silva brings a new striker to Merseyside in this summer’s transfer window.

And the Toffees should target a move for Celta’s Gomez, who has the potential to become one of the best centre-forwards in European football.

What would Gomez bring to Everton?

Gomez arrived at Celta from Uruguayan outfit Defensor Sporting in the summer of 2017 and has proved to be a fine addition for the La Liga club.

Indeed, Gomez has managed 26 goals and nine assists in 55 appearances for Celta, including eight goals in 15 La Liga appearances this term.

Celta are believed to have paid just £3.5m for Gomez in May 2017, but Transfermarkt have placed a value of £31.5m on the striker, which seems fair.

Standing at 6ft 1in, Gomez is a danger in the penalty box, while he would also bring international experience to the Toffees having appeared on nine occasions for the Uruguay national team.

Earlier this season, it was reported that Tottenham Hotspur were interested in signing Gomez in this summer’s transfer window.

There will certainly not be a shortage of interest in the forward, but Everton – currently 11th in the Premier League table – must do all they can to bring the South American to Goodison Park for the 2019-2020 campaign.
